How often should I service my LPG appliances?

The HSENI recommends that all gas appliances are serviced every 12 months by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered installer. Why should I service my LPG appliances?
Like all fuels, LPG is capable of producing Carbon Monoxide if incomplete combustion is present, i.e. they are not burning efficiently.
